You may have started to notice Local Candidates beginning to advertise themselves via local media, social networks, and the tried-and-true method of posting campaign signs at every street corner :p Gaston county has candidates ranging the political spectrum from Left to Right and those in the middle and you have probably seen a number of different campaign themes and messages by now. But there is one point that ALL the local candidates would agree on: They want YOU involved in this election.
Elections for local offices give citizens the most ‘voice for their vote’ since the community is so close to the officials they are electing. Citizens can have more involvement in the overall process of the election – and more impact – whether its helping campaign for a particular candidate or advocating for a specific community need, it is simply easier to be heard and felt. Not only that, but citizens can take a more active role after the election by attending meetings, writing and calling the elected officials, and actually meeting the local members of our government in person for a serious discussion.
